Hi Lovely,
Welcome to the very first episode of Beyond The Beauty.
If you've found your way here, thank you for being here.
This blog is something a little different from the beauty content you may usually see from me. It's more personal, more vulnerable, and honestly, a little scary to share.
But I believe some conversations are worth having.
My name is Cat, and I'm the owner of Nailed That! Beauty Salon.
Most people know me as the girl who loves nail art, creating beautiful treatments, building a tropical salon experience, and making women feel good about themselves.
What many people don't see is the journey that sits behind all of that.
The years of anxiety.
The struggles with mental health.
The therapy.
The healing.
The tears.
The growth.
And the lessons that completely changed how I view self-care.
That's why I created Beyond The Beauty.
Because beauty has never really been about beauty for me. It's always been about something much deeper.
The Anxiety Nobody Sees
I've lived with anxiety for many years. For a long time, I didn't fully understand what was happening inside my own mind. From the outside, life looked normal.
I was working.
Building a business.
Looking after family.
Smiling.
Showing up.
Getting on with things.
But inside, my mind was constantly running.
Thinking.
Overthinking.
Analysing every situation.
Preparing for every possible outcome.
Trying to stay one step ahead of things that might never even happen.
Anxiety is exhausting. Not because you're physically doing something. But because your brain never truly switches off.
It's like carrying a conversation in your head all day long.
A conversation filled with "what ifs."
What if something goes wrong?
What if I've forgotten something?
What if I've upset someone?
What if I fail?
What if I can't cope?
What if...
What if...
What if...
And when those thoughts become your normal, you don't always realise how much energy they're stealing from you.
The Misunderstanding Around Anxiety
One thing I've learned over the years is that anxiety isn't simply worrying.
People often describe it as worrying too much. But for many people, it's far more complex than that.
Anxiety can affect your sleep.
Your confidence.
Your relationships.
Your ability to make decisions.
Your physical health.
Your energy levels.
Your self-worth.
It can make you second-guess yourself even when you're doing everything right.
It can make you feel overwhelmed by things that seem simple to everyone else. And perhaps the hardest part? You often become very good at hiding it...
Many people living with anxiety become experts at appearing okay.
They continue working.
Continue parenting.
Continue smiling.
Continue showing up.
While carrying battles nobody else can see.
I know because I became one of those people.
What Therapy Taught Me
I want to be clear about something.
I'm not a therapist.
I'm not a mental health professional.
I'm simply sharing my own experiences and the lessons I've learned along the way.
One of the biggest things therapy taught me was that self-care isn't just bubble baths, face masks, and treating yourself.
Don't get me wrong... I love all of those things.
But true self-care goes much deeper.
It's learning how to set boundaries.
It's recognising when you're overwhelmed.
It's resting before you completely burn out.
It's understanding your triggers.
It's learning to speak to yourself with kindness.
It's allowing yourself to ask for help.
And perhaps most importantly... It's realising that your worth isn't measured by how much you can do for everyone else.
That lesson alone changed my life.
Because for years I believed being productive meant being valuable.
That if I slowed down, I was failing.
If I rested, I was lazy.
If I said no, I was letting people down.
But therapy taught me something different.
Rest isn't weakness.
Boundaries aren't selfish.
And looking after yourself isn't something you earn.
It's something you deserve.
Why I Created Nailed That! The Way I Did
Looking back now, I realise anxiety shaped the salon I created. Not because anxiety controlled me. But because it taught me what people truly need.
Over the years, I've sat with hundreds of women.
And something incredible happens in a salon chair.
The conversations often go far beyond beauty.
Women talk about their marriages.
Their children.
Their worries.
Their grief.
Their dreams.
Their stress.
Their struggles.
Their mental health.
Sometimes people arrive carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders. And for an hour or two, they finally get permission to put it down.
That's why creating a safe space became so important to me.
Not just somewhere to have your nails done.
Not just somewhere to have a facial or massage.
But somewhere you feel seen.
Heard.
Understood.
Accepted.
A place where you don't need to pretend everything is okay.
A place where you can simply be yourself.
Because I know what it feels like when you're carrying things silently.
The Lesson I'm Still Learning
One thing anxiety has taught me is that healing isn't a destination.
It's not something you tick off a list. You don't suddenly wake up one morning completely healed.
Life continues to challenge you.
Different seasons bring different struggles. New experiences create new lessons. And that's okay.
The goal isn't perfection.
The goal isn't never feeling anxious again.
The goal is learning how to navigate those feelings with more understanding, more compassion, and more awareness.
Even now, I still have moments where anxiety shows up.
The difference is that I recognise it sooner.
I listen to it differently.
I understand what my mind and body are trying to tell me. And I give myself permission to slow down when I need to.
If You're Struggling Right Now
If anxiety is something you're dealing with, I want you to know this:
You're not weak.
You're not failing.
And you're certainly not alone.
There are so many women carrying similar battles behind closed doors.
Women who look like they're coping.
Women who are smiling.
Women who are showing up every day.
Women who are doing their best.
Just like you.
Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is acknowledge that you're struggling.
Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is ask for support...
And sometimes healing begins simply by realising that somebody else understands.
Beyond The Beauty
This is exactly why I wanted to create this series.
To have the conversations we don't always have.
To talk about the things that sit beneath the surface.
To explore self-care beyond beauty treatments.
To share lessons, experiences, and stories that might help someone feel a little less alone.
Over the coming episodes, we'll be talking about anxiety, self-worth, boundaries, burnout, healing, confidence, motherhood, mental health, and so much more.
The real conversations.
The messy parts.
The growth.
The healing.
And everything in between.
Thank you for being here...And thank you for allowing me to share a little piece of my story.
With love,
Cat x
Founder of Nailed That!
Because beauty is only part of the story.
